From the moment of birth, the human mind is constantly forming images of events, experiences, feelings and thoughts around it. Think of an event from your childhood, school, family or friends. As soon as we recall the event, an image of it appears in our mind and we begin to feel the same emotions we felt at the time. These mental images determine our world view, our behavior, and our self-image.
But these accumulated images distort reality, i.e. they are false. It is easy to see that it is false if, for example, you recall an event in your life where several people were present and some had a good time and some did not.
If I felt bad about the event I experienced, I remember it and think of it as a negative event. But if there was someone else who felt good about the same event, they associate positive memories, thoughts and feelings with it. So what is the reality? Is this event good or bad?
The answer is very simple: both points of view are wrong because they are judged from one’s own point of view. This false perspective is a feature of our whole life because we picture every moment according to our own self-centered mind, witch separates us from the true nature of the universe, which is Reality.
According to Stanford University study, the average person has 60,000 thoughts a day. 80% of these thoughts are negative and 95% are the same as the day before. These thoughts come from the very images we have stored in our minds. Because they are mostly negative, they are a constant burden and stress in our daily lives. Moreover, as mentioned earlier, they are false because they distort reality.
This shows us that it is worth getting rid of these images in order to bring new, positive thoughts, feelings and solutions into our lives with the flow of nature.
Subtraction Meditation is a method that helps us to get rid of these mental burdens, so that we can return to the original, pure state of consciousness, which is the mind of the universe, and live according to the flow of nature. The following is a detailed explanation of the essence of Subtraction Meditation, the steps involved, and how to access the true universe through this method.
Subtraction Meditation is a method that is a means to eliminate the false world in our mind, thus bringing us into the real world. The images, thoughts, memories and feelings that accumulate in our mind prevent us from directly experiencing reality. These mental contents create a kind of false world that separates us from the true nature of the universe.
The purpose of meditation is to get rid of these mental burdens and return to a state of pure awareness.
It is a multi-step process. These steps help us to gradually get rid of accumulated mental content and achieve true selfhood.
The first step in meditation is to recognize that in our mind, instead of reality, there is a subjective world created by past experiences, memories and feelings. This world is not the true nature of the universe, but is a distorted view of reality.
At this stage it is important to be aware of what thoughts and feelings are present in your mind. Begin to observe these mental contents without becoming immersed in them. This awareness will help us to understand that these thoughts and feelings are not our true self, but merely products of our mind.
The second step is the process of elimination, whereby we consciously remove accumulated images, thoughts, memories and feelings from our mind. This is a very simple process whereby the meditator conjures up images and events from the past in their imagination and consciously releases the thoughts and emotions associated with them.
For example, if you are haunted by painful memories of a past relationship, you can use meditation to bring up these memories and then consciously “extract” them from your mind. This process continues until the negative images and memories are completely dissolved and no longer affect our current awareness. Of course, the memories of the past are not erased, only the negative attachment is broken down.
As we progress in the process, we begin to realize that the “I” created by images and thoughts is only an illusion. The ego, which maintains the sense of “self” and “separateness”, gradually dissolves as we free ourselves from mental content.
At this stage, the aim of meditation is to dissolve the ego and realize that the “self” is not really a separate existence, but the universe itself, although this term is also incorrect. In fact, there is no self that we think of. This realization allows us to experience oneness with the universe and reach the state of pure awareness.
With the dissolution of the ego, we reach the deepest stage of meditation, where we experience the original, pure nature of the universe. In this state our mind is completely free of all illusions and distortions and we experience reality directly.
This is the state of the “real universe”, where we realize that the difference between “I” and the universe was only an illusion. The universe is pure, eternal, and all-encompassing, and in this state the individual is fully identified with it, i.e. ceases to be self.
Once we have achieved union with the universe, the next step is to maintain this state in everyday life. This means that we maintain pure awareness and that our mind does not accumulate new mental burdens and illusions. For this, the mind needs to be completely renewed.
The method helps us to stay conscious and in harmony with nature in every moment of life. This state allows us to live a fuller and happier life, free from all inner conflict and suffering.
The method is not just a meditation tool, but an inner journey to experience the true nature of the universe. Total liberation can be achieved through this method. Here is why it is important and how it can help you in your everyday life.
If you want to experience the benefits of this method, the following steps will help you get started:
Find a quiet place where you can meditate undisturbed. It is important to choose an environment where you can sit comfortably and where your practice is not disturbed.
Sit comfortably and start breathing deeply. Focusing on your breathing helps calm your mind. Breathe in deeply and then exhale slowly, consciously releasing any tension with each exhalation.
Start to notice what thoughts, feelings and memories are appearing in your mind. Don’t judge them, just simply observe them as an outside observer.
As you observe the contents of your mind, imagine extracting these images, thoughts and feelings one by one from your mind. Know that as these mental burdens are removed and released, your mind becomes clearer and clearer.
As you remove more and more mental content, you begin to realize that the “I” and the thoughts and feelings associated with it are just illusions. Focus on dissolving the ego and let a sense of oneness permeate your consciousness.
When your mind is clear and free of illusions, let it sink into the pure, original state of the universe. Feel oneness with the universe and experience the true nature of reality.
At the end of the meditation, slowly return to the present while maintaining a state of pure awareness. Try to maintain this state in your daily life.
Like all meditation, Subtraction Meditation can be challenging. Below are some common difficulties and tips for overcoming them.
Some thoughts and memories are particularly deeply embedded in our minds and can be difficult to let go of. In this case, be patient with yourself and repeat the process of elimination several times if necessary.
If you have trouble focusing, start by focusing on your breathing. Breathing deeply and slowly can help you calm down and focus.
Dissolving the ego can be challenging because it is deeply rooted in our self-identity. At such times, try to realize that the ego is an illusion and focus on experiencing oneness with the universe.
During meditation, strong emotions may arise that can be disturbing. Accept these emotions and allow yourself to experience them, then slowly release them in the process of withdrawal.
Regular practice of subtraction meditation can have many positive effects on our lives:
By clearing our mind and releasing the ego, we can achieve a deeper inner peace and calm, which helps us to deal with everyday stress and anxiety.
The pure awareness we experience in meditation helps us to know ourselves better and to see our own feelings and thoughts more clearly.
Experiencing oneness with the universe increases empathy, love and a sense of community, and helps us to connect more deeply with others and our environment.
As we free ourselves from mental burdens and experience the true nature of the universe, our quality of life improves and we are able to live a fuller, happier life in harmony with the flow of nature.
